How will this course benefit me?
This course is suitable for all ages, fitness abilities and levels. It will improve flexibility, mobility, muscle tone, strength, breathing and relaxation.
Fitness classes contribute to a healthy lifestyle and an improved well-being which will benefit you at home and at work.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners must notify the tutor of any injuries and/or medical conditions (including pregnancy).
You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire on attendance.
Some conditions may require a doctor’s consent form before participation in the class.
This course requires a full commitment to learning by attending every session and arriving on time.
What will I learn?
Pilates is a form of body conditioning and consists of a series of controlled movements and breathing patterns. It can help you develop your strength, flexibility, posture and muscular control. You will learn the 6 principles of Pilates and practise basic Pilates moves.
At the end of the course learners will:
- Improve their flexibility and mobility
- Tone their muscles
- Add strength without bulk
- Improve breathing and relaxation.
How will the course be delivered?
- Interactive teaching in a friendly manner.
- Verbal instructions and explanations.
- Demonstration and practise.
- Group and one-to-one guidance and support.
How will my learning be assessed?
You will receive regular verbal feedback from your tutor, who will assess you continually and informally through observation and Q & A. An Individual Learning Plan will help you monitor your progress and reach your targets.
What are the extra costs?
Mats are available, but students might prefer to bring their own.
We recommend you bring a bottle of water to rehydrate during exercise.
Please wear comfortable, loose clothing (such as track suit, leggings or jogging bottoms and a T-shirt). Pilates is normally performed barefoot.

A ‘What Next’ progression leaflet will be available at the end of your course.
Health and safety requirements?
You will need to follow your tutor’s advice and guidance to ensure that you are exercising safely.
You must also let your tutor know of any new health conditions.
