Redbridge Institute Principal, Joni Cunningham has received an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list

Congratulations to our Principal, Joni Cunningham who has received an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list!

“The principal of the ‘outstanding’ rated Redbridge Institute, Joni Cunningham, has been awarded an OBE for services to adult community learning. She said “I’m honoured to receive this award and proud of our service and what our staff and learners have achieved together. This is public recognition of the vital work we do in adult education, supporting some of the most disadvantaged learners in our community, helping them to achieve their potential and succeed in their lives’. Redbridge Institute has been in the news over the last 12 months achieving an Outstanding grade from Ofsted, the first adult learning provider to achieve this for three years and in March won two TES FE Awards 2019 as Adult and Community Learning Provider of the year and receiving the award for overall FE Provider of the year.

Dr Sue Pember, OBE, HOLEX Director of Policy and External Relations said Ms Cunningham, who is vice-chair of the sector network, was “a fantastic role model for all of us”. “She is an inspiration and a long standing and effective advocate and national leader of adult community education. As principal of Redbridge Institute of Adult Education, she is setting the excellence and quality bar for other services.” As well as her work in Redbridge, Joni has worked tirelessly for others who work in the adult community education sector.”
